单词辨析、一义多词 Part2（笔记归纳）
一、事故：
（1）Accident
通常是指不愉快的，强调偶然或意外发生的不幸事情，是不可预知的偶然事件。词组：by accident 偶然地
（2）Incident
指与某人或是与某些事件有关的、不是很重要的事情或叙述中的一件事，不过有时也会指引起战争或争端的突发事件。
（3）Event
这个指的一般是指历史上的重大事件，国际上的或者是国内的重大事件，还可以表示体育运动的比赛项目。
词组：in the event 到头来，in the event of 如果，万一，in any event 无论如何，in the event that 在....情况下
（4）Happening
（5）Occurrence
（6）Affair------love affair 恋爱关系
这个也是指一般的事件，小的事件，但是与我们刚刚说的日常生活中的一般事件时有区别的，affair指的一般事件大多数指的是私事。也指相关的事件或者是活动。如果affair用的是复数形式，那么所指的就是国家大事了。
Eg： I was fairly certain she had nothing to do with the affair.
我相当肯定她与此事无关。
This incident seemed destined to become a mere footnote in history.
这次事件似乎注定只能是历史上一次无足轻重的事件。
This will reduce the chance of serious injury in the event of an accident.
如果发生意外事故，这将减少造成重伤的可能性。
we could not conceive of such things happening to us.
我们无法想像这种事竟会发生在我们身上。
Parties were a fairly regular occurrence.
晚会是相当经常的事。
If you are unable to work owing to accident or sickness.

二、Room
两层意思：
（1）房间
（2）空间
固定词组：make room for：给....腾出地方/空间
表达“空间、地方”的意思时候，如何区分“space、place、room”呢？
这里考察近义词辨析
room有两层含义，一为“房间”，是可数名词；二表示人或物体所占的“空间或地方”意思，是不可数名词，可构成make room for给……让出地方。②place指人们从事各种活动的“地方，场所，位置”，是可数名词，常用的短语有take one’s place就坐，入席。③space意为“空间”，是不可数名词，表示万物存在之处。
Eg：
James took the books off the little table to make room for the television.
詹姆斯把小桌子上的书拿下来，为电视机腾出空间。
Rather than encroach on his privacy she might have kept to her room.
她本来可以呆在自己的房间里而不去侵犯他的隐私。
The work gives the sense of a journey in space and time.
这部作品给人一种经历了一次时空旅行的感觉。
This place is out in the boondocks, you'll never get here by bus.
这地方属边远的乡村，不通公交车。
三、不同：
（1）Different
（2）Diverse
（3）Distinct
（4）Various
different、 diverse 、 distinct和various 四个形容词有何区别？
(1) Different 主 要 指 “ 不 同 ” ， 例 如 ：
They are different in opinion. 他们看法各异 。
(2) Diverse 亦指 “不同” ，但较 different的词义强，例如：
Jack and his brother have diverse interests.
杰克 和 他 哥 哥 的 兴 趣 完 全 不 同 。
(3) Distinct 亦 指 “ 不 同 ” ， 但 更 强 调 “性 质 上明 显 不同 ” ， 例 如 ：
The two issues are distinct from each other.
这两 个 问 题 截 然 不 同 。
(4) Various 则 指 “ 种 种 ” ， 表 示 “ 同 一 范畴 内 的不 同 类型 ” ， 例 如 ：
Various sorts of people participated in the game.
各式 各 样 的 人 参 加 了 比 赛 。
四、作业
（1）Assignment （大学老师口语布置作业常用）
（2）Homework （housework 指家务活）
Assignment比homework更为正式
Eg：You can leave school early, on the condition that you finish your assignment first.
你可以早点离校，条件是你得先做完作业。
He was in no mood to go to the concert, as he hadn’t finished his homework.
他作业还没做完，无心去听音乐会。
五、重要、必要 （可替换，不同之处在于语气强弱）
（1）important---普通用词
（2）vital------较为正式
（3）significant---比important 强
（4）momentous-----语气更强，表示极其重要
（5） crucial-----比essential强，决定性
（6）essential----类似necessary
（7）imperative----常接介词to或for
（8）indispensable ----语气强，侧重指绝对必要性或不可缺少性
（9）necessary----最常用词，侧重由客观因素决定的某种需要
Eg：The right hemisphere plays an important role in mediating tactile perception of direction.
右脑在形成方向触觉感知方面起重要作用。
It's vital that team members step out of their silos and start working together.
队员们停止各自为政并继而开展团队协作是至关重要的。
In times of stress her dreams seemed to her especially significant .
在压力大的时候，她的梦想似乎对她特别重要。
So this is a very unusual and momentous event that's occurring right now.
目前所发生的很不寻常，非常重大的事件。
The proposal has become a crucial bargaining counter over prices.
此项提议已成为价格谈判中的重要砝码。
In an ordinary commercial transaction a delivery date is essential.
在普通商业交易中，交货期至关重要。
Free movement of labour was an economic imperative.
劳动力的自由流动是经济的基本要求。
Regular lifestyle, proper exercise and a balanced diet are believed to be indispensable for good health.
好的生活习惯,适当的运动和均衡的饮食被认为对身体健康非常重要。
We have prepared adequate food and tents necessary to the victims from the flooded areas.

这里涉及到很多词汇：inevitable, unavoidable(不可避免的）,etc.
