before引导的时间状语从句
before意为“在……之前；还未……就……；……之后才……”引导时间状语从句时，主句为肯定句时，before引导的从句动作后发生；主句为否定句时，before引导的从句动作先发生。例如：
We cleaned the classroom before we left school yesterday.昨天离开学校之前，我们打扫了教室。
Before I could say a word, he ran away.我还没来得及说话，他就走了。
He didn't arrive before I returned.在我回来之前他尚未到达。
注意：before意为“在……之前”，其引导的时间状语从句遵循“主将从现”原则，即主句是一般将来时，从句用一般现在时替代一般将来时。since意为“自从……以来”，since引导时间状语从句使用一般过去时，主句使用现在完成时（since的特殊句型“It is 一段时间 since从句”除外，该特殊句型主句用一般现在时，从句用一般过去时。）。例如：
I will finish my homework before you come back.在你回来之前，我将会完成我的作业。
So much has changed in the sport since I was a teenager.自我十几岁以来，该项运动发生了很大变化。
由连词before构成的基本句型：
1. It be 一段时间 before ...
这个句型意为“过了一段时间（之后）才……”，“没过多久……就……”。等于句型“It takes 一段时间 before”例如：
It will be four years before he graduates.还要四年的时间，他才能毕业。
It took a few moments before I realized that he was lying.过了好一会儿，我才意识到他在撒谎。
2. It be not long before ...
这个句型意为“（不久）……就”，强调时间的短暂。等于句型“It doesn't take 一段时间 before”例如：
It was not long before he got to know it.没过多久他就知道了。
It did not take long before chocolate was praised throughout Europe as a delicious, health-giving food.没过多久，巧克力就在欧洲被誉为美味、健康的食品。
