Hello everyone, welcome to WendyEnglishTimes. 今天我们要讲的故事来自伊索寓言--下金蛋的鹅 the goose that laid the golden eggs.

The goose that laid the golden eggs

A man and his wife had the good fortune to possess a goose which laid a golden egg every day. Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough, and, imaging the bird must be made of gold inside, they decided to kill it in order to secure the whole store of precious metal at once. But when they cut it open they found it was just like any other goose. Thus, they neither got rich all at once, as they had hoped, nor enjoyed any longer the daily addition to their wealth.

Much wants more and loses all.

1/ have good fortune

那么有好运就是have good fortune.

2/ lay eggs

Lay

3/ get rich

。。,比如,变大get big, 变胖get fat, 变富有get rich。

4/ be made of 由。。。

Be made of... 比如,be made of wood,由木头制作而成的,be made of gold, 由黄金制作而成的。

5/ in order to...为了。。。

比如,为了有健康的生活,就是in order to have a healthy life,为了变漂亮,就是in order to become beautiful。

6/ at once

比如,do it at once,立刻去做。Run at once, 立刻跑了。

7/ neither...nor....既不。。也不。。。

Neither A nor B, 就是指A和B哪个都不是,既不是A,也不是B。

8/ wealth
