With the development of society and the economy, the number of private cars is increasing at a surprising speed. As we all know, cars give off poisonous gas, causing global warming, frequent natural disasters, diseases, etc. To protect our environment, it is high time that we go green.
First, we should raise people’s awareness of the importance of going green. Second, using public transportation or riding bicycles instead of cars can make a big difference. Moreover, we should save water, electricity, paper, food, etc. Last but not least, it is a good idea to sort our trash and recycle it when possible.

Many years ago, my father, who was 80 at the time, arrived for his regular two-week visit to my home in Karachi. He lived with my elder brother in Lahore most of the time and, for ten years, had a habit of going for an hour-long morning walk to keep fit. In Lahore, he would walk around a park near my brother’s house. Naturally, he was keen to continue his morning walk with us in Karachi.
Our preferred park is a 2 km walk from my house, and it has a 1 km walking track. However, I could not drive him there every day as I had to leave for the office when he wanted to go for his walk. Since there were hardly any footpaths in Karachi, my father said he was happy to walk on the road as he was certain there wouldn’t be much traffic in the morning.
I was less confident, so I suggested it would be safer if he changed his walk time to the evening. That way, I could take him to the park after work. However, my father – a determined person – said that he could not change his routine for just a few days and insisted that he would leave the house every day at 7 am and return by 8 am. He started doing this and stuck firmly to his schedule. So one day, when he had not returned by 8:30 am, my wife, Qaisa, phoned me in a panic . Worried, I immediately drove home, taking the same route my father would have taken for his walk.
Not spotting him anywhere, I went to the police station to report my father’s disappearance. The station house officer advised me to wait until midnight before filing the report. Since it was only 10 am, I drove back to the park , hoping to discover some trace s , but in vain. Totally at a loss for what to do next, I returned home and waited impatiently, walking back and forth in the house .

At 10:35 am, the doorbell rang, and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young man. Before I opened my mouth, my father hugged me tightly. Enormously relieved, the young man told me that my father had lost his way while returning home after his morning walk. The only description he could provide was that my house was near the park. With much effort, it took him almost two hours to find my house .
After learning what had happened, I thanked him . I invited him inside to join us for a cup of coffee. The man politely refused, “I’m happy to have brought your father safely home to you. I hope one day someone friendly will do for my parents what I just did for yours,” his face beaming with sincerity. With that, he drove the car away without even sharing his name. His simple words, spoken from his heart, found their way straight into mine. From that day on, whenever I meet someone in need, I always reach out to them, hoping to pass on the kindness the young man offered me.
