副词的主要作用是修饰动词、形容词、其他副词及整个句子，表示时间、地点、程度、方式等概念。比如：

I am terribly sorry. （修饰形容词）
二、分类：
按意义副词可以分为：
1、方式副词：quickly, carefully, neatly
2、地点、方向副词：here, away, outside, west
3、时间副词：today, yesterday, tomorrow
4、强调副词：very, too, quite, rather
