该币为1931年湘鄂西省苏维埃政府的湘鄂西省农民银行，用战斗缴获的中华民国三年(公元1914年)版"袁世凯像银币"翻铸的银币，用于部队在中央苏区使用流通。该币正面铸有大总统袁世凯的侧面肖像及铸造年度"中华民国三年"，袁像右侧戳有竖排繁体"苏维埃"三字印记，以限在苏区流通使用。背面铸有嘉禾花纹，中间铸有"壹圆"字样。
直径为3.9厘米，重量约26.6克。此枚中华民国三年袁大头苏维埃版，藏品虽然经历了无穷岁月的洗礼，但是如今保存依然较为完好。其色泽光鲜自然，纹饰深浅适度，边缘线条粗细均匀，间距也疏密一致。人像、发丝、胡须、穗芒等细微之处清晰有度，生动自然。民国三年“袁大头”正面为袁世凯五分侧面像，右侧刻着“苏维埃”，上列“中华民国三年”六字，背面两条嘉禾，左右交互，下系结带，中铸‘壹圆’二字。即使是“百年高龄”，但是仍然保存完整，品相较好。它是一枚具有很高收藏价值的精品银元。
