对于习惯于“买买买”的中国游客来说，如果到了瑞士（Switzerland）不买军刀，就跟到了北京没有吃到烤鸭、到了南京没有喝到鸭血粉丝汤一样，多少会有些遗憾。甚至回国后可能会纠结和沮丧很久，心情如下：
那么，瑞士军刀凭什么能在全世界人民心中成功种草，成为旅行必买的爆款呢？
瑞士军刀，原本被称为 “瑞士军官刀”，它的德语发音“Offiziermesser”很是绕口，于是粗犷的美国大兵们干脆自己将它称之为“Swiss army knife”——瑞士军刀，于是“瑞士军刀”这一简称也约定俗成地成为了这一品牌的名称。
1884年，维氏公司的创始人卡尔·埃尔森纳（Karl Elsener）在瑞士施夫州小镇伊巴赫开办了自己的刀具工场。1921 年，埃尔森纳将去世的母亲的教名Victoria和伊巴赫当地制造的不锈钢刀Inox合成 Victorinox（维氏）一词。
In 1909, the mother of founder Karl Elsener died and he named the company "Victoria" in her honor. In 1921, with the introduction of "inox" (ab. for acier inoxydable, the French term for stainless steel) into their products, the brand and name of the company became the present "Victorinox".
