only 和merely 有什么区别?
only和merely的区别为:意思不同、用法不同、侧重点不同。
一、意思不同
1、only:仅有的,唯一的。
2、merely:仅仅,只不过。
二、用法不同
1、only:only用作形容词表示“唯一的,仅有的”,可修饰单数名词,也可修饰复数名词。前面常加定冠词the或形容词性物主代词。当only与另一个形容词或数词连用时,only要放在它们前面。
2、merely:merely作副词是“仅仅,只不过”的意思,在句中一般修饰谓语动词,有时还可放在名词前修饰名词。Not merely位于句首时可引起主语和谓语部分倒装。
三、侧重点不同
1、only:表示意愿要唯一性,范围较小。
2、merely:表示最多要达到的程度,范围较大一点。

merely 指“仅仅,而已”,表示最多要达到的程度,范围较大一点;而only指的是“只是”,表示意愿要唯一性,范围较小
在‘he merely wanted to talk with her, not to make her angre’这句话里,不能用ONLY来代替MERELY,否则意思及口气都会有所改变。
前者的意思是:我只是想和她说说话,并没有想让她生气
如果换了意思就变成:我只想和她说话,不是让她生气
显然口气变硬变冷了很多,人情味也少了很多。
