在英语中close与 closely非常容易混淆，要想弄清楚这两个形近词的用法，我们不妨从词性入手，逐一来辨别它们词法的不同之处。
一、close
作形容词时，含义是“（在空间、时间上）接近的，靠近的，亲密的，严密的，实力相差无几的，严加戒备的;闷热的;吝啬的;闭塞音的”
The two trees are close together.这两棵树挨着很近。
We all have to work in close proximity.
我们都不得不紧挨在一起工作。
Her lips were close to his head and her breath tickled his ear.

He was close to tears.

作动词时，含义是“关，关闭，闭上”

二、closely
作副词时，含义是“紧密地，密切地,仔细地”表达的是一种抽象的意义，常常修饰分词形容词和动词。
The two events are closely connected.这两件事情有密切的联系。
They watched the enemy closely.他们密切地注视着敌人的动向。
They crowded more closely around the stretcher...
他们在担架旁围得更紧了。
Wherever they went they were closely followed by security men.
不管上哪儿，保安人员都紧跟在他们身后。
He was observed to follow her closely.
有人看到他紧跟着她。
She was following Laura's progress closely.
她密切关注着劳拉的进展。
The French and British are co-operating more closely than they have for years.
法国和英国现在的合作比往年更加密切。
We work closely with the careers officers in schools.

三、close与 closely的区别
这两个词都可以作副词，但是它们的词法用途完全不同，close 表示靠近，接近的含义，是指很具体意义上面的近，也就是偏重于距离的近。
而closely更加偏重于抽象意义上面的“近”。常常修饰分词、形容词和动词。
1.At the meeting ，they sat very close and had a close talk ，but I didn't know what they were talking about.
开会时他们坐得很近并进行了亲密交谈，但是我不知道他们在谈什么。
2.The little boy sat close to his father and listened closely with great interest.
小男孩紧靠着他的父亲坐着，饶有兴趣地仔细听着。
特别是同为副词时，一定要辨别好具体和抽象，还有要注意他们各自所修饰的词性，尤其要记住closely一般修饰的是分词形容词和动词。
