1.important
说道重要，那么最先说的肯定就是important了，毕竟也是要和其他的词作对比的，这个词既可以指某事意味深长，也可以指有一点价值的，我们常说的VIP就是a very important person的缩写。
例如：
We were given the full VIP treatment.
2.crucial
这个词的意思是至关重要的，关键的，决定性的，我们从这个意识上也可以看得出来，crucial的重要性比important要高一些。
例如：
The success of this experiment is crucial to the project as a whole.
3.vital
这个词的意思大家应该知道，‘必不可少的，极其重要的’，在语气上它比crucial会更强。
例如：
She had found out some information of vital importance.
4.significant
这个词就有点意思了，sign-这个词根表示mark，标记某一件事，那他肯定是很重要的了！而significant这个词表示的是某事特别有意义，但是不是一定会带有紧迫或 者是强有力的含义的。
例如：
Your success today may be significant for your whole future.
5.essential
这个词的意思是‘必要的，必不可少的’，但是它分为两种用法，一个是与to或是for连用，表示‘对....要紧的’；在一个就是直接当做名词，表示‘必需品，不可缺 少的东西’。
例如：
Water is essential for/to living things.
不过要注意的是，在‘It is/was essential that-clause’句型中，that从句要用虚拟语气。
例如：
It is essential that you should come home early.
6.principal
这个词作形容词表示‘主要的，首要的’，在形容人的时候，是指作用大，而不是职位高；在形容物的时候，表示的是起决定作用。因此这个词是没有比较级和最高形 式的。
例如：
He was principal dancer at the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
Iraq's principal export is oil.
7.primary
这个词形容的就是在进展顺序上占首位，也指在重要性上面占主导地位，在这里有一点是要注意的，那就是primary不用于比较等级，只做定语。
例如：
The primary task for socialism is to develop the productive forces.
8.considerable
这个词的意思是‘相当的，可观的’，形容比较重要的，或者是突出的。
例如：
He is a considerable person in that college.
9.major
这个表达的是‘较重要的，主要的’，有一种比较的意味在里面，就是相对的一个较重要，但是要记住的是，major也是没有比较级和最高级形式的。
例如：
There are two problems with this situation, one major, one minor.
10.staple
别看staple表达的是‘基本的，主要的’意思，及以为它表达的是不太重要的，其实它是有‘占主导地位’的意思在里面的。
例如：
Rice is the staple diet in many Asian countries.
11.momentous
这个词表达的还是比较重要的，比较轰动性的，或是比较重大的消息或决定。
例如：
The momentous news of the president's death.
Whether or not to move overseas was a momentous decision for the family.
12.count
count这个词的意思是‘计算’，不过呢我们可以把它引申为‘计算在内、重要、有价值’，常见搭配是count for sth。
例如：
In their eyes wealth counted for a great deal, education for very little.
