情态动词的主要用法需要注意以下几点：
1、情态动词 动词原形；
Jim can play the guitar. Jim会弹吉他。
2、绝大多数情态动词无人称与时态变化；
His father can help him with his homework.
他的爸爸可以帮助他做作业。
3、情态动词可当作助动词使用，构成疑问，否定；
Can you give me the book?
Yes, I can. No, I can't.
He can't play the piano.
What can you do?
can 作为初中阶段第一个学习的情态动词，否定形式 can not = can't，主要含义有三种：
1、can 表示现在的能力，译为"能，能够，会"
I can swim. 我会游泳！
He can't play the violin.
他不会拉小提琴。
如果要表示过去的能力，需使用“could”
2、can 表示请求或许可，译为“可以”
Can you pass me the pen?
你可以把钢笔递给我吗？
You can use my crayons.
你可以使用我的蜡笔。
What can I do for you?
我能为你做什么吗？
can't 表示“不能，不准”
You can't eat in class.
上课不准吃东西。
You can't park your car here.
这里不准停车。

3、can 表示推测，表示“可能”; 多用于否定句之中， can't 表示“不可能...”
Look at the man! He can't be our teacher.
看那个男人，他不可能是我们的老师。
James can't make such a mess.
不可能是詹姆斯弄得这么乱的。

与 can 构成的常见短语与句型有：
1、Can/May I help you?
What can/may I do for you?
都表示“有什么可以帮到您？” 多用于商店、饭店、旅店、办事处等场所，作为与顾客的招呼语！翻译较为随意；
-What can I do for you? -你好，有什么需要?
-I want some socks. 我想要买些袜子。
2、can't help doing sth. 情不自禁做...
She can't help crying the time she sees her son.
她看到她儿子的那一刻，他情不自禁的哭了。
can't help （to） do sth. 不能帮助做某事
I can't help to clean the room now.
我现在不能帮助打扫房间。
3、can't wait to do sth. 迫不及待，等不及做...
I can't wait to see him now.
我等不及要见他了。
4、can't stand sth./doing 受不了...
I can't stand the smell of Durian.
我受不了榴莲的味道。
The boy can't stand doing too much homework every day.
