英国英语和美国英语
一 在表示某人住院时，英国人在hospital前不用冠词，美国人常用定冠词。
英国She is in hospital.
美国She is in the hospital.
二 wash up 在英国是洗餐具的意思，而在美国是洗手洗脸的意思。
在美国说洗餐具用wash the dishes.
三 表示不用谢何足挂齿等意思，美国人一般说You are welcome.
英国人却说Not at all.或者Don’t mention it.
四 如果英国人对你说他住在first floor你就要到二楼去找他。
英国人把一楼叫做ground floor
third floor是四楼。
美国人和我们的说法一样。
first floor是一楼，second floor 是二楼
五 倒数第二个，英国人说last but one.
美国人则说next to last.
六 买飞机票或火车票时，售票员问乘客，是买单程票还是往返票？
英国人说Single or return?
美国人说One way or round trip?
七 subway在美国指地铁，在英国确指供行人穿过马路的地下人行道。
如Cross by the subway走地道过去。
地下人行道在美国叫做underpass
英国人把地铁叫做underground或tube
八 vest英国指内衣或汗衫。美国则指西服马甲。
汗衫美国是undershirt,西服马甲英国是waist coat.
九 public school美国指公立小学或中学。这类学校不收学费。
英国则指如Eton那样培养贵族子弟的私立寄宿学校（中学）学费昂贵。
如He was educated at public school.
他毕业于英国公学。
