on bench，“在板凳上”，即C罗坐替补席。这句话也可以说：Ronaldo gets benched。
与替补相对应的则是“首发”，starting lineup。roll，即“晋级”。
也有媒体说：
“When you play without pressure, the team does better.”
“没有压力，球队表现得更好！”这大概是影射C罗在赛前深陷舆论漩涡，压力山大。
37岁的C罗没能首发，他是否有微妙的心理变化？我们不得而知。但这次调整着实取得了积极的效果：

dominating
dominating是形容词，表示“个性强势的；左右他人的”，在比赛中也可以表示“压倒性的”。看看它的动词原型dominate就更容易理解了。
domin-，这个词根表示“主人”。汉语中，常说“当家做主”，即“在某个领域处于主宰或者支配地位”；ate则是动词后缀。合起来就表示“主宰；支配”。葡萄牙队兵不血刃，以6:1大比分获胜，确实是a dominating victory。
replacement
再看另一边，作为首发的贡萨洛·拉莫斯（Gonçalo Romos），Ronaldo’s replacement, Gonçalo Romos, is just 21-year-old.
replacement，先做一下拆分：place作动词意为“放置”，re-表示再一次，-ment为名词词缀。字面意思就是“重新放置回去的东西 / 人”，即“替代物；接替者；替代者”。
