很久很久以前，鸭妈妈生下了一群小鸭子。
小鸭子越长越大，但是其中一只小鸭子的个子却长得太大了。
（发现了吗？丑小鸭其实有在非常认真地学习和模仿他人。这是不是寻找认同的第一步呢？）
Mother duck said, "Go away! You are too big and too ugly. You do not belong here."
Poor Ugly Duckling! He was so sad. He went to see Hen.
鸭妈妈说：“你走开！你太大太丑了，你不属于这儿。”
可怜的丑小鸭！他很伤心。他去找母鸡。
（然而我们必须清醒地认识到，世界很大，你可能会被温暖地包容，却也可能会被冰冷地排斥。）
Hen said, "Go away! You are too big and too ugly. You do not belong here."
Poor Ugly Duckling! He was so, so sad. He went to see Cat.
母鸡说：“你走开！你太大太丑了，你不属于这儿。”
可怜的丑小鸭！他非常伤心。他去找猫咪。
（鸡妈妈对自己的小鸭显然是呈保护的姿势的，可是谁来保护丑小鸭呢？会是猫咪吗？）
Cat said, "Go away! You are too big and too ugly. You do not belong here."
Poor Ugly Duckling! He was so very sad. He did not belong anywhere.
猫妈妈说：“你走开！你太大太丑了，你不属于这儿。”
可怜的丑小鸭！他非常非常伤心。他哪里都不属于，哪里都不是他的家。
（这下连幼猫都对丑小鸭怒目而视了，还有个一旁看热闹的老鼠！丑小鸭走向池塘，然而它心里或许已经绝望了。可是，你有没有发现，丑小鸭似乎在慢慢地发生变化？）
But then Ugly Duckling saw Swan. He said, "I do not belong anywhere. I am too big and too ugly."
Swan said, "You are not too big. You are not ugly."
