英国国旗长啥样大家大致都知道，那么现在要提问了：英国国旗是对称的吗？
在揭晓答案前，我们先来说说英国国旗是怎么来的吧。
英国国旗在我们这里俗称“米字旗”，英文中叫做"the Union Flag"或者"the Union Jack"。
注：Jack是海军用语，指悬挂在舰首的旗帜。
1606年时，英国国旗由英格兰的圣乔治十字旗和苏格兰的圣安德鲁旗交叉合并而成，和现在的有点不一样，没有红色斜杠（所谓的圣帕特里克十字）。
1801年时，爱尔兰加入了大不列颠，英国成为联合王国，而爱尔兰圣帕特里克的白底红斜十字旗也融入其中，从而形成了今天的米字旗。

You can rotate the flag and it still will be the right way up but you can't invert it.
当你180度旋转英国国旗的时候，它还会是老样子，但是你不能上下颠倒它。
Look at the white diagonals and you will see why.
看着白色的对角线你就知道为什么了。
On the side next to the flagpole, (the hoist side), the thick white band is above the red band on both diagonals, the white band being part of the cross of St Andrew, the Scottish flag and the red band being part of the cross of St Patrick, the Irish flag.
与旗杆相连的那一侧，在每一条对角线上，白色的宽条纹都在红色条纹之上。白色条纹是圣安德鲁旗——苏格兰旗的一部分。红色条纹是圣帕特里克十字——爱尔兰旗的一部分。
The cross of St Andrew is above that of St Patrick at the hoist because the cross was added to the flag before St Patrick's cross.
圣安德鲁旗之所以在旗杆内侧顶部，在圣帕特里克十字之上，其原因是圣安德鲁是在圣帕特里克十字之前添加到国旗上的。
On the side that flutters free, the fly side, this is reversed, with the Irish flag being above the Scottish flag.
而在旗帜自由飘动的外侧则相反，爱尔兰旗在苏格兰旗之上。
根据以上所说，再看看下面这张图，是不是真的不对称呢？
这样的不对称里，包含的是英国的历史，弄错可谓影响很不好了。
然而，还真的有人会把英国国旗挂反！下面这个就是挂反的例子！
This flag is upside down because the narrow white band is on top.
这面旗挂反了，因为比较窄的白条纹到上面去了。
