may和might一般用来表示请求或许可，也可用来表示可能性。
1.may的用法
①表示请求或许可，疑问句的肯定回答一般用may或can，否定回答一般用mustn't或can't。
--May I go home now? 我现在可以回家了吗?
--Yes, you may/can. /No, youcan't/mustn't.是的，你可以。/ 不，你不能。
重点提示：在表示许可时，may和can都可以，但不可以用might，因为might用于请求，不用于许可。在否定句中may not不如can't语气强。
②表示可能性
may可以表示现在，将来或过去的可能性，may表示的可能性比can要小。
Tom is absent for class today. He may beill.汤姆今天没来上课。他可能病了。（对现在的推测）
He may go camping with us tomorrow.他明天可能和我们一起去露营。（对将来的推测）
He may be sleeping at home now.他现在可能正在家里睡觉。（对现在正在进行的事情的推测）
I can't find my mobile phone, I may have left it in the office.我找不到我的手机了，我可能把它落在办公室了。（对过去的推测）

④may用于目的状语从句
He works very hard so that he may pass the exam.他学习很努力，以便能通过考试。

⑤may用于让步状语从句
No matter what may happen, I will not give up.不管发生什么事，我都不会放弃。
Whoever you may be, I will not tell you the secret.不管你是谁，我都不会告诉你这个秘密。
⑥may/might as well 还是...好，用于有礼貌的劝告或建议。
You might as well tell her the truth early.你还是早点告诉她真相的好。
It's cold outside, so you might as well stay at home.外面很冷，你最好还是呆在家里吧。
2.might的用法
①表示现在和过去的请求和许可
Might I ask a question now?我现在可以问一个问题吗?
The little boy asked if he might go home.小男孩问他是否可以回家。
②表示可能性
might可以指过去的可能性，也可以指现在或将来的可能性，但比may可能性小。
Tom told me that he might go to see a film.汤姆告诉我他可能会去看电影。
He might go with us tomorrow, but I’m not sure about it.他明天可能和我们一起去，但我不敢肯定。
Don’t wait for me now. That might be more convenient for you.现在不要等我了。那对你来说可能更方便。
