both ,either 和either
（1）这三个词都用于指两个人或事物,但意思和用法有所不同：both意为“两者都”，后面跟复数名词，作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式,通常用作主语、宾语、定语、同位语；either 意为“二者之一”，后面跟单数名词，作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式，通常用作主语、宾语、定语；neither 意为“两者都不”， 后面跟单数名词，作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式，通常用作主语、宾语、定语。例：
Both of the students like playing football.(主语)
Both students like playing football. (定语) 两个学生都喜欢踢足球。
The students both like playing football (同位语)
Either of the stuents like playing football.(主语) 两个学生当中有一个喜欢踢足球。
There are some trees on either side of the road.(定语) 马路的其中一边有很多树。
Neither of them can understand me. (主语) 两个人都不理解我。
Neither room is warm. (定语) 两个房间都不暖和。
（2） both…and…意为“······和······都”，用来连接两个并列的成分，如主语、谓语、表语、宾语等。当both…and…用来连接两个并列的主语时，谓语动词用复数形式; either…or…(不是······就是······)和neither…nor…（既不······也不······）也可以用于连接两个并列的成分。连接两个并列的主语时，谓语动词与第二个主语保持一致，即适用于所谓的“就近原则”。 请比较：
Both you and I are right. 你和我都对。
Either you or I am right. 不是我对，就是你对。
Neither you nor I am right. 你和我都不对。
