How to Establish Teaching Objectives in Senior High School English InstructionDu Zhengxue
Abstract: This thesis reports an observation of nine English classroom instructions carried out in three senior high schools that perform the new curriculum experiment project in a less developed region in northwest of China. The observation finds that the majority of English teachers have difficulty in properly establishing teaching objectives. Many teachers frequently direct their teaching off the target. The main reason lies in the poor understanding of the new curriculum and the rationales of the design of the textbooks. By analyzing the key concepts and functions of unit, topic and activity of the textbook, the author holds that a thorough understanding of the status of a unit, the meaning of the topic, and the instruction of an activity can lead to the correct establishment and realization of lesson objectives.
