英语中，我们经常这样问话：what's the matter with you?可是，你知道这句话的the matter是什么词性吗？
在英语学习者心目中的印象：matter是名词，物质。但是，在这个结构中，完全不一样了。the matter 这两个单词合在一起，变成一个“形容词”了。确实有点特殊，因为这个形容词是两个单词构成的词组。意思是“有问题”“出毛病”相当于wrong。
- -What's the matter with you?你怎么了？（the matter在句中做表语）
-I have a bad cold.我重感冒了。
- I don't know what's the matter with my brother. 我不知道我的弟弟怎么了。（the matter做表语）
- There is something the matter with my mobile phone. 我的手机出问题了。 说明：第三句中的the matter是形容词，说明不定代词的形容词放其后面。它的用法和wrong相似。
There is something wrong with my mobile phone.
注意：在宾语从句中，很多人误认为the matter可以当主语。
