因此，捕鱼船很难向虎鲸隐瞒自己的活动。
对此，渔民有两种可能的选择，一个较为行之有效的方法就是暂时停止捕鱼。这种做法背后隐含的策略是通过“不奖励”的方式来让虎鲸觉得跟随渔船是一件划不来的事，长此以往，或许可以改变虎鲸“守株待兔”的懒惰行为。
但这种行为属于伤敌一千，自损八百，跑空船不捕鱼，这不是浪费油钱吗？
所以有人还提出了另一种方案，那就是改装船只的发动机，让虎鲸以为这并不是捕鱼船，或者是安装威慑性的装置，让虎鲸对船只失去兴趣。
但这一做法带来的效果可能是暂时的，毕竟虎鲸太聪明了，也许一段时间后，就会识破人类的“诡计”。而且，根据相关研究，虎鲸脑和人脑有些相似：包括海马体和杏仁体在内的边缘系统——这个系统就像情绪处理器，这意味着虎鲸其实是有情绪的。
